ROMÉO ET JULIETTE
TYBALT | SEMPEROPER DRESDEN
Who doesn’t know the heart-breaking story of the young couple from Mantua? Two people from feuding families who love each other so much that, after flouting tradition and their rigid family structures, they have the courage to pay for this outrage with death. Romeo and Juliet want to do more than just break the rules – they wish to love and to live freely. The version of William Shakespeare’s play, published in 1597, has been adapted many times for theatre, ballet, film, musicals and opera, including „Roméo et Juliette“ by Charles Gounod.

COSÌ FAN TUTTE
FERRANDO | KONZERT UND THEATER ST. GALLEN
No woman can be faithful, so goes the audacious assertion put forward by Don Alfonso. Guglielmo and Ferrando are outraged, as they are absolutely certain of their partners, Fiordiligi and Dorabella. The young men recklessly agree to a wager, with precarious consequences. In his dramma giocoso, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart masterfully subverts this dubious test of fidelity and paints a portrait of the soul, revealing a dizzying rollercoaster of emotions between deception and self-deception. Director and artistic director Barbara-David Brüesch transports Mozart's bitter "School of Lovers" into the present day and examines it in light of the seemingly endless possibilities of our relationships and love lives.

CAVARADOSSI | DES MOINES METRO OPERA
Returning to our stage for the first time in 17 years, Tosca features Puccini’s most memorable melodies and romantic orchestrations. The opera diva Floria Tosca steadfastly lives for art and love. However, when the corrupt Scarpia discovers Tosca’s lover, Cavaradossi, aided the escape of a political prisoner, her world comes down to one final, fatal question: how far will she go to protect the man she loves?
